The proportion of apprentices at DACHSER in Germany remains constant at around ten percent. Across all three apprenticeship years, the family-owned company currently employs 1,707 apprentices, 126 dual students and 15 trainees. Worldwide, around 2,400 young people are undergoing training and studying at the family-owned company. This represents an international training quota of around six percent.
“Even after the training period, we support professional and personal growth and continuous learning in the workplace,” explains Natachia Antonis, Corporate Director Human Resources at DACHSER.
The shortage of qualified specialists and drivers is and remains one of the biggest challenges for logistics companies. For this reason, DACHSER continues to be heavily involved in the training and hiring of junior staff, especially during the current economic downturn. As a family business with a long-term focus in a crisis-proof industry, the global logistics service provider continuously invests in its employees.
As usual, the 283 prospective forwarding and logistics services clerks make up the largest proportion of new starters at this year’s start of training in Germany. This is followed by 148 warehouse specialists. 105 young people have decided to train as professional drivers at DACHSER Service & Ausbildungs GmbH. In addition to trainees in other professions, 22 young people are also starting a dual course of study in the fields of “Business Administration – Logistics” and “Business Administration – Insurance”. Eight career starters will also embark on a trainee program for young professionals.
Training with the aim of permanent employment
At DACHSER, the chances of being taken on after successfully completing training are very promising. “In addition to recruitment, we are also focusing in particular on how we can strengthen the loyalty and further development of our employees,” emphasizes Natachia Antonis, who took over the position of Corporate Director Human Resources on 1 April 2025 and is responsible for global HR work in this position. “Even after the training period, we support professional and personal growth and continuous learning in the workplace. This is firmly anchored in our HR strategy.”
“Our employees are and will remain the decisive success factor for the future,” says Burkhard Eling, CEO of DACHSER.
“Training them ourselves and offering young people attractive career paths afterwards: This commitment is becoming increasingly important in view of the serious changes in the labor market associated with demographic change,” adds DACHSER CEO Burkhard Eling in light of a study by the German Economic Institute, according to which almost 20 million workers will reach retirement age by 2036. “Our employees are and will remain the decisive success factor for the future,” says the DACHSER CEO.
