Mohamed Alaluss, a doctoral student in the Department of Power Electronics (headed by Prof. Dr. Thomas Basler) at Chemnitz University of Technology, was honored with the “Young Researcher Award” on June 9, 2026, at the leading conference for power electronics, the PCIM Conference 2026, in Nuremberg. This award, worth 1,000 euros, is presented to up-and-coming young researchers from academia who are under 30 years of age. “There were a total of 600 paper submissions to PCIM this year, which makes Mr. Alaluss’s achievement stand out even more,” said Basler.

Mohamed Alaluss’s paper, “Novel Test Concept for Active Short-Circuit Characterization,” focuses on a novel test concept for the active short-circuiting of power semiconductors, which can occur, for example, in the event of a fault in electric vehicles. “The paper provides important insights into the characterization of power semiconductors at their limits and opens up new perspectives for the further development of robust power semiconductors,” says Basler.
