SF6-free technology: a breakthrough for the environment
The SF6 gas previously used has been replaced by an innovative insulating medium based on purified air. This technology, implemented with the GM Air SeT switchgear type, significantly reduces the ecological footprint and is regarded as pioneering for the energy sector.
Successful project launch at the Cargo Center
On October 30, 2025, the first milestone of the project was reached on schedule. Four GM Air SeT switchgears and two switchable cast resin transformers were installed in Lufthansa Cargo’s Cargo Center for network operator Fraport . The new technology supplies a fully automated high-bay warehouse, which requires additional electrical power.
Key technical data of the project
Actemium’s scope of services includes:
- 24 GM Air SeT medium-voltage switchgear bays including protection technology
- 6 x 1.250 kVA
- 6 x 800 kVA transformers
- 2 x DC power supplies
- 2 x telecontrol cabinets
Modernization during ongoing operation
The existing building’s 50-year-old transformer station will also be replaced with this new technology in three construction phases during ongoing operation, in parallel with the new building.
Collaboration as the key to success
The project was realized in close cooperation with Fraport, Lufthansa and Actemium. The timely implementation of the first project phase is proof of the excellent teamwork of all those involved.
