Growing range of parts meets increasing set-up and programming times
With the continuously growing range of parts, VETEC’s existing CAM infrastructure was increasingly reaching its limits. The previously used Inventor-CAM and HSM-Works systems were no longer able to meet the increasing requirements for process reliability, automation and, in particular, the minimization of set-up times. One of the main challenges was the long service life of machines when setting up new components.
The need for a solution that not only speeds up programming, but above all significantly reduces set-up times, became increasingly urgent. The project objective was therefore clearly defined: To introduce a modern CAM system with comprehensive 5-axis functionality, complete NC code simulation and support for automation strategies to reduce set-up and programming times.
Intelligent automation and maximum process reliability
In order to achieve the ambitious project goals and, in particular, significantly reduce set-up times, VETEC opted for N+P Informationssysteme GmbH (N+P) to introduce the powerful hyperMILL® complete CAM solution. The implementation comprised a series of coordinated modules and technologies.
Specifically, the hyperMILL® CAD Solid Bundle, hyperMILL® Classic, the 3M 5X Bundle and several virtual machines with Optimizer function were used. The hyperMILL® VIRTUAL Machining Optimizer automatically finds the technically best, collision-free approach and optimizes traverse movements. The MAXX Machining Finishing Bundle has also been integrated for particularly demanding finishing operations. This combination enables efficient 5-axis simultaneous machining, as required for VETEC’s modern machining centers.
A central element of the project was the introduction of the hyperMILL® AUTOMATION Center. It enables the standardization and automation of recurring CAM processes. With the help of a comprehensive macro and tool database, once defined programming sequences can be transferred directly to new components. This automation not only considerably reduces programming times, but also makes a significant contribution to error prevention.
Another key element is NC code simulation based on a digital machine twin. This function allows the component alignment to be virtually validated and adjusted – a decisive factor in minimizing set-up times. The system creates simulation-based NC programs that are precisely matched to the machine kinematics, eliminating potential collisions in advance.
The system was implemented step by step and was accompanied by targeted training at the N+P Berlin office. This provided both a basic understanding of the CAM strategies and the specific handling of the virtual machine environment. The verification of the virtual machine went smoothly and on time, so that the first productive components were programmed and manufactured immediately after the project was completed.

VETEC expertise in special products
Noticeable efficiency gains – less set-up, more production!
The introduction of hyperMILL® has proven to be a groundbreaking step towards more efficient production processes for VETEC. The progress was particularly noticeable in the area of setup time reduction and programming speed. The combination of automated component alignment, NC code simulation and standardized programming sequences has significantly reduced the time required to set up new MAXX Machining finishing bundle components. Employees now have to intervene less manually – many steps can be carried out directly from the CAM system at the touch of a button. In addition, the use of the virtual machine environment has led to a significant increase in process reliability. Thanks to the realistic simulation, errors can be detected and rectified at an early stage before they reach production. This not only reduces the risk of expensive machine collisions, but also significantly reduces the need for rework.

5-axis machining center with rotary/tilt table
Thanks to the hyperMILL® AUTOMATION Center, many recurring tasks can now be automated. The comprehensive macro and tool database facilitates access to proven strategies, secures internal know-how and reduces dependency on individual experts.
One employee, who is working with a modern and highly flexible CAM system for the first time, is also impressed by the intuitive user interface and powerful functions. Overall, the new solution allows VETEC to utilize its machines more efficiently, implement unmanned shifts more easily and systematically develop new production strategies, particularly in the area of 5-axis simultaneous machining.
Digitalization success and outlook
With the introduction of hyperMILL®, VETEC has taken an important step towards digitalization. The investment has already paid off thanks to the significant reduction in set-up and programming times as well as significantly higher process reliability. The expectations of the system have been met in full. From the initial product presentation through to productive implementation, the experts from N+P supported the project with a high level of commitment, a clear structure and practical solutions. This resulted in a collaborative partnership that contributed significantly to the smooth progress of the project and its successful implementation.
