In the official welcoming speech, the Commercial Director of the HZDR, Dr. Diana Stiller, gave a motivating outlook on the coming years of training: “I like to compare the HZDR to a large family that has grown again today. We warmly welcome the new family members and assure them that, in addition to their practical training, their personal development will also be important to us in the coming years.” The HZDR has an excellent reputation as a training company, which it wants to continue to live up to in the future.
The first week is all about a structured welcome program, getting to know each other and lots of information about training and studying.
Individual selection process – a perfect fit for every profession
For 2025, the HZDR advertised 16 training positions in a wide variety of areas, for which a total of 208 applications were received. In a demanding selection process, which included personal interviews as well as small aptitude tests and practical tasks, twelve suitable candidates were ultimately selected. This reflects the nationwide trend at the HZDR that many apprenticeship positions cannot be filled due to a lack of qualified applicants.
Those who successfully completed the selection process can look forward to a sound and practical apprenticeship: “Our apprentices and students are the specialists of tomorrow. That’s why it’s important to us to offer them guidance, support and development opportunities from day one,” explains Kristin Krutenat, one of the three training coordinators at the HZDR. “The induction week is an important cornerstone – it builds trust, provides security and makes it easier to start the new phase of life.”
Venezuelan twin power at the HZDR
Last year, Pedro Alejandro Suárez Acosta from Venezuela began a dual study program in the field of Bachelor of Engineering – Information Technology. This year, his twin brother Jesus Alexander Suárez Acosta is also starting his training as an electronics technician for devices and systems at the HZDR.
The path to training at the HZDR was a rocky one. Numerous bureaucratic hurdles, which the HZDR helped him to overcome, had to be overcome. The two are now all the more delighted to be able to live in Germany and be trained at the HZDR: “This was a real milestone for us and we are very proud of how far we have come and what we have achieved,” says Pedro Alejandro Suárez Acosta.
