The QLX3xx design targets sovereign GNSS-based PNT solutions for aerospace, defense and critical infrastructure &#8211; such as fail-safe timing and synchronization networks and highly integrated GNSS receivers with ultra-low power consumption at the networked edge.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\">GF and Qualinx set new standards for GF state manufacturing in Europe<\/h3>\n<p>The GF factory in Dresden, co-funded under the &#8220;European Chips Act&#8221;, establishes an independent European manufacturing flow, bundling all steps of the production process &#8211; from design receipt to mask manufacturing and wafer fabrication &#8211; within the European Union. Neither sensitive design data nor physical materials leave Europe, meeting the stringent regulatory and security requirements of European governments, defense agencies, system integrators and critical infrastructure operators.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are demonstrating that Europe can rely on a secure, end-to-end semiconductor manufacturing process that meets the highest standards of the aerospace and defense industry,&#8221; said Dr. Manfred Horstmann, Senior Vice President and General Manager at GlobalFoundries. &#8220;Our partnership with Qualinx marks the first operational milestone, demonstrating that complex, safety-critical ASIC designs for aerospace, defense and critical infrastructure can be industrialized today using a fully European, trusted manufacturing process.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This first secure product demonstrates that a fully European manufacturing process &#8211; from mask fabrication to wafer production &#8211; is a reality today,&#8221; said Tom Trill, CEO of Qualinx. &#8220;Together with GlobalFoundries, we optimized our digital RF technology on GF&#8217;s FDX with a secure end-to-end process, ultimately leading to the launch of our reconfigurable Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) SoC and ultra-low power analog front end. This milestone underlines our ability to deliver trusted, energy-efficient solutions while maintaining full control over IP, data and the supply chain within Europe.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\">Timetable: Expansion of European manufacturing capacities<\/h3>\n<p>The tape-out realized together with Qualinx represents the first operational milestone on the way to a fully automated, trustworthy European manufacturing process, which GF plans to establish in Dresden by the end of 2026. From 2027, aerospace, defense and critical infrastructure customers will be able to use this automated process as part of regular foundry operations, including the integration of European IP partners, mask manufacturers and OSAT service providers to ensure a consistent value chain anchored in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Today, numerous European system and module manufacturers from the aerospace and defense sectors as well as critical infrastructure operators are already in discussions with GF to integrate future product generations into GF&#8217;s European sovereign manufacturing flow. The successful launch with Qualinx serves as compelling evidence and mitigates both technical and regulatory risks for subsequent programs.<\/p>\n<p>To further strengthen its European sovereign manufacturing chain, GF is also working with leading European connectivity and cloud solution providers to secure data exchange along the entire semiconductor value chain. In a joint project with Deutsche Telekom, GF is investigating how production data from design and tape-out to manufacturing, testing and quality assurance can be processed, transported and stored entirely within Europe via European networks, cloud infrastructures and data centers.
