By combining these areas, TUD researchers aim to develop fundamentally new architectures to reach the performance limits for next-generation communication systems.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our goal is to go beyond isolated quantum applications and instead create integrated systems in which communication, computing and sensing work together to enable real commercial applications,&#8221; says Junior Professor Riccardo Bassoli. &#8220;This holistic approach enables us to redefine what future networks like 6G can do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Quantum technologies offer transformative potential for public networks. While quantum key distribution (QKD) has been one of the most visible applications to date, researchers in the new lab will investigate a much broader range of quantum-based methods. These include entanglement-based communication, advanced coding strategies in terms of post-Shannon theory, and novel approaches to information processing and sensing.<\/p>\n<p>Building on world-leading results in the field of quantum technologies achieved at TUD, researchers will also investigate how quantum systems can be combined with existing network infrastructure, such as 5G networks. This should set new standards in terms of performance, security and functionality.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\">The Holodeck: Experience digital worlds together and without barriers<\/h3>\n<p>The Holodeck went into operation at the same time today. The Holodeck is a fully LED-based, immersive space for real-time visualizations. In contrast to conventional virtual reality solutions, this environment enables shared experiences without VR glasses. This allows social interactions to be analyzed in a controlled digital world.<\/p>\n<p>The space serves as a testing ground for innovations at the interface between people and technology. Application scenarios include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Interaction in space: researchers analyze human behavior in highly immersive scenarios to better understand the interaction between people and their environment.<\/li>\n<li>Industry of the future:&nbsp; Whether virtual production or simulation-based design &#8211; the holodeck allows teams to work together on complex industrial value chains and test prototypes in virtual space.<\/li>\n<li>Design of digital decision-making processes: Research is being conducted into the effect of immersive media on our perception and decision-making in order to define technical requirements for future working environments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"\">A milestone for the science region<\/h3>\n<p>The opening ceremony was attended by the Rector of TUD, Professor Ursula M. Staudinger, Martin Kiefer (Saxon State Ministry of Economics, Labor and Transport) and Professor Frank Fitzek, holder of the Deutsche Telekom Professorship for Communication Networks and spokesperson for the CeTI Cluster of Excellence.<\/p>\n<p>This pioneering project was made possible by funding from the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space, the German Research Foundation and the State of Saxony.
