They offer start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises and research institutions open access to industry-oriented manufacturing infrastructures to accelerate the advancement of quantum computing, communication and sensor technologies. A total of six European projects on different hardware platforms have been selected to significantly accelerate the development of quantum chip technologies in Europe over the next seven years.\n<\/p>\n<p>Quantum computers enable much faster calculations and are among the most groundbreaking technologies, as they enable breakthroughs in complex problems that cannot be solved with classical computers and even supercomputers. The fields of application range from the faster development of new drugs and new materials to the optimization of supply chains and the highly efficient management of intelligent power grids. Studies assume that the global quantum market will reach a total volume of up to 97 billion US dollars by 2035. In order to exploit this high potential, research results need to be quickly transferred to industrial production. Quantum systems can only be scaled up if their key components can be manufactured reliably, reproducibly and with maximum precision in large quantities.\n<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The goal is clear: quantum computers are to be developed and manufactured in Europe. The quantum pilot lines create precisely the close and effective collaboration required for this along the entire quantum value chain. Together with excellent partners, we are strengthening Europe&#8217;s quantum ecosystem and translating scientific excellence into scalable industrial solutions. This enables quantum technology to make the step from the lab to real-world applications,&#8221; says Sabine Herlitschka, Head of Strategic Funding Management at Infineon Technologies. &#8220;We are thus making a significant contribution to the objectives of the European Chips Act and to Europe&#8217;s digital sovereignty in this key technology.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"\">From the lab to production and scalability<br \/>\n<\/h4>\n<p>Infineon is participating in three European quantum pilot lines with focused quantum platforms based on ion trap, superconducting and semiconductor-based spin technologies. With this multi-technology approach, Infineon&#8217;s highly qualified quantum team operates specialized laboratories that are closely interlinked with semiconductor production. Collaboration within the pilot line consortia accelerates the development of various quantum platforms and links them to high-volume manufacturing of critical hardware components such as the quantum processor.\n<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"\">Infineon is involved in the following three pilot lines:<br \/>\n<\/h4>\n<h6 class=\"\">CHAMP-ION (Championing a European advanced manufacturing of ion-traps)<br \/>\n<\/h6>\n<p>This pilot line is building Europe&#8217;s first advanced manufacturing line for ion-trap quantum chips. Under the leadership of Silicon Austria Labs (SAL), the project brings together 21 partners from six countries. The aim is to provide the entire value chain &#8211; from design and microstructuring to testing and validation &#8211; for fully integrated, miniaturized and mass producible ion trap systems. These systems integrate electronics and photonic structures on a single chip to enable quantum computing and its applications.\n<\/p>\n<h6 class=\"\">SUPREME (Pilot line for superconducting quantum Chips)<br \/>\n<\/h6>\n<p>The consortium, coordinated by the Finnish research organization VTT, comprises 23 partners from eight countries. The focus is on the industrialization of superconducting quantum technologies. Superconductivity enables efficient qubits that can be produced using proven semiconductor technologies and enable fast quantum operations. A key milestone is the development of a 200 qubit 3D integrated module, which is intended to demonstrate improved stability, higher production yield and better reproducibility.\n<\/p>\n<h6 class=\"\">SPINS (Pilot line for industrial quantum NanoSystems)<br \/>\n<\/h6>\n<p>Coordinated by imec, SPINS is driving forward the development of quantum chips based on pure silicon or silicon\/silicon germanium structures. The extensive use of standardized CMOS production enables scalability.
