The SME sector forms the backbone of the German economy. However, small and medium-sized enterprises have structurally greater difficulties financing themselves on the capital market. This is where the ERP Special Fund comes in with financing offers. With the ERP Economic Plan Act 2026, the German government is now optimizing SMEs’ access to affordable loans and equity capital. ERP funding will continue to focus on financing for start-ups, including company successions. In addition, the economically important key areas of innovation, digitalization and venture capital will receive increased support: for an investment-friendly SME sector, innovative start-ups and the digitalization of our companies.<\/p>\n
The ERP funds are largely made available via the Kreditanstalt f\u00fcr Wiederaufbau (KfW) in the form of loans. These are characterized by particularly favorable interest rates, long terms, liability exemptions for the house banks and the waiver of repayments in the first few years. The newly designed “ERP Digitalization Loan” and “ERP Innovation Loan” programmes provide SMEs with increased support in the area of future-oriented technologies, in particular artificial intelligence. This also includes a combined financial grant of up to 5.0% of the loan amount.<\/p>\n
The ERP Special Fund was originally created from funds from the “Marshall Plan Aid” for the reconstruction of the German economy. It has been supporting the German economy for over 75 years. The aim of the ERP programs is to create reliable support for German SMEs and to create an economically favourable environment in which the innovative potential and inventiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises can flourish.<\/p>\n
The ERP Special Fund is administered by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The ERP funding programs based on loans are largely made available via KfW. Applications must always be submitted to the house bank (bank or savings bank) and requested from the house bank before the start of the project.<\/p>\n
