Information about the transport: The two large elements of an air separation unit, each almost 30 meters long and weighing more than 78 tons, were manufactured at various Air Liquide locations worldwide  and have been on their way to Dresden by ship, among other places, in recent months. Once the heavy freight has arrived in the city on the Elbe, the last 15 kilometers from the port of Dresden to its destination will be covered by heavy goods transport by road. Delays and precautionary measures such as parking and stopping restrictions along the route are possible during the overnight transport.

The route and timetable: 21.05. to 22.05.2025

–    On 21.05.2025 around 11 p.m.: Departure from the port of Dresden, exit Fl\u00fcgelweg<\/p>\n

–    Around midnight: Passage through the overhead lines on K\u00f6tzschenbroder Stra\u00dfe and then onto the A4 at Elbepark<\/p>\n

–    On 22.05.2025 around 0.30 to 2 a.m.: Departure at Hellerau junction and Radeburger Stra\u00dfe slip road<\/p>\n

–    Around 2 to 3 a.m.: Arrival at Moritzburger Weg \/ Karl-Liebknecht-Str., Passage overhead line<\/p>\n

–    Around 3 to 4 o’clock: Arrival K\u00f6nigsbr\u00fccker Stra\u00dfe
 
The two cold boxes are needed for Air Liquide Electronics air separation plants. Due to their size, transportation by regular road transport is not possible. Therefore, heavy-duty transportation is unavoidable that night.<\/p>\n

What are the cold boxes used for?<\/h3>\n

The cold boxes moved as part of the heavy-duty transport are the heart of two new air separation plants that produce high-purity nitrogen for semiconductor production. During air separation, ambient air is drawn in and purified. In further process steps, it is compressed and cooled to -196\u00b0C. This utilizes the physical principle whereby compressed air cools down when it expands. Nitrogen is required in large quantities in microchip production. Without high-purity gases, the production of nanometer-sized semiconductor structures in the clean room would not be possible. <\/p>\n
