The ground-breaking ceremony took place in the presence of State Secretary Prof. Heike Gra\u00dfmann (SMWK), Dresden’s Lord Mayor Dirk Hilbert and Falk Reinhardt, Technical Managing Director at Staatsbetrieb S\u00e4chsisches Immobilien- und Baumanagement (SIB). Construction is due to be completed by 2029. The construction costs borne by the Free State of Saxony and the federal government amount to around 70 million euros.<\/p>\n

The new joint building with laboratory and office units will primarily serve as a center for quantum materials and research into new semiconductor technologies. It unites the TUD’s Cluster of Excellence “Complexity and Topology in Quantum Matter” (ct.qmat) and the IFW Dresden under one roof. Shared laboratories, communication areas and short distances will enable even closer interdisciplinary collaboration between the two institutions on common topics in the future. The new joint building will thus become a place for cutting-edge international research into quantum materials.<\/p>\n
The new laboratory complex will provide 5,100 square meters of usable space for laboratories and offices as well as more than 3,000 square meters of technical and traffic areas. Around 150 employees will find their new workplace here. Connected to the main building will be a communal service yard with supply facilities.<\/p>\n
The modern research building was designed by the project planning office AWB Architekten GmbH. The design is characterized by a sustainable and space-efficient overall concept in the dynamic research landscape on Campus South. To the south, the construction site on N\u00f6thnitzer Stra\u00dfe borders the so-called S\u00fcdpark – the area that will be developed by the state capital of Dresden as the site of the Federal Garden Show from 2033. <\/p>\n
The foundation stone for the new building is due to be laid next fall. Final completion is currently scheduled for mid-2029.<\/p>\n
